Obl. 7.25 x 11 in. scrapbook, black flexible leatherette boards, string-tied binding. First part has 100 photographs, ranging in size from 1.75 x 2.5 in. to 4.5 x 5.75 in. Most of these seem to be friends and family, but there are a few military "buddies" and aircraft. Then there are about two dozen blank pages, and the second part has 158 photos (plus one loose postcard). Most of these seem to be from military service, several with palm trees in them. The last image in the first part is identified as "Frank Webster Age 5 June 27, 1914." The postcard is addressed to Mrs. Clara McNulty ("Mamma") in Denver, Colorado, with several stamps from the French dependency of New Caledonia (Melanesia). This is one possible location of the scenes with palm trees. The card is signed "Harold." Ancestry locates a Harold J. McNulty, listing his birthplace as Colorado, stationed in 1920 at Pearl Harbor Naval Station, another possibility for palm trees. A decade later, Harold J. McNulty is at San Diego, possibly the naval station there. (He definitely seems to have left Colorado for warmer climates - at sea level.) In the photos in the second part of the book are a group shot of a military unit, a number of airplanes, most biplanes, many with floats (rather than wheels); balloons and zepplins; Red Cross nurses. There are aerial views of towns and coastlines, some with airplane struts in the image. There are views of a half-dozen planes flying in formation. There are also a number of crashes. On involves a plane and possibly a zepplin (or balloon). One wonders if it could be storm damage in this case (they are in the tropics). Others show planes crashing in a large body of water. There is one group of sixteen 3.25 x 5.5 in. images of men in uniform (several different ones), most with airplane struts behind their heads, so likely taken on the base. A number of the guys wear flight helmets. One older man is in formal "whites," clearly a higher ranking officer. An interesting group of an early aviation unit, possibly in the Pacific. Condition: Very good for the most part. A couple of scrapbook pages have pulled out, but most of the photos seem to be in place.
