Wooden game compendium, France, circa mid- to late 19th century. Made by Maison Bail Jouets. 13 x 20.25 x 5 in. (330 x 510 x 125 mm). The top lid and front of the box have brass inlaid frame lines and 'Jeux' in the center of the lid , keyhole and brass hinges (lacking key, lacking some inlay, some overall wear). The interior is composed of a removable top tray and a lower compartment with a smaller removable tray, both containing pieces for numerous games including chess, checkers, lotto, Fox and Chicken, jackstraws, Steeplechase, Molinette, Parcheesi, and others. Spinning tops, poker dice, a solitaire peg game, three wooden tumblers, games counters, 4 game boards, dice, and other game pieces are also included, along with printed rules in French for a variety of games (interior with some wear and tape repairs).
