WILLIAM HODGES (1744-1797) A View of the Mosque, at Mounheer, from the S.E.; A View of the Pass of Sicri Gully; A View of a Hindoo Monument 3 aquatints printed in sepia and coloured by hand (443 x 584mm; 462 x 628mm; 450 x 614mm), drawn and engraved by Hodges, published by J. Wells, 1 January 1787 and 27 April 1788, from Hodges' Select Views in India , London: [1785-1788]. (Some general spotting, old crease to lower margin of second plate.). Abbey Travel 416, nos. 18, 46 & 48); together with 6 hand-coloured and 14 sepia aquatints, including 2 'before-letter' proofs (nos. 25 & 30) from Select Views in India (370 x 240mm and smaller). (Two plates with repaired tears affecting image area.) Abbey Travel 416, nos. 1, 4, 22, 26, 29, 42 (coloured) and 6, 8, 9, 17, 18, 22, 25, 27, 29, 33, 43, 46 (sepia); together with 4 small format copper-engravings after images by Hodges, mounted together. Exhibited : The East End of the Fort of Mongheer, A View of the Pagodas at Deogur, and A View of the Part of the City of Oud, India Observed , nos. 54, 57 & 63. A fine selection of prints from Hodges' splendid work, Select Views in India . This pioneering work on the architectural and picturesque wonders of India, was the main result of Hodges six year stay in India under the patronage of Warren Hastings. The plates were published in three separate forms: uncoloured, uncoloured proofs or with the plates hand-coloured to resemble the original drawings. Cf. Abbey Travel II, 416; cf. Brunet III, 242; cf.
