Condition : lower right corner torn but well outside the platemark, margins wide, some surface soiling. Provenance : Martin P. Snyder. This rare contemporary view of the Battle of Germantown, although entirely fanciful, was no doubt of local interest due to the Hessian participation in the battle. The text below the image begins: “Vorstellung der Bataille d. 4. 8br 1777 so zwischë den Engelländern unter Anführug des General Howe u Americanern unter Comando des General Washington zu Nachtheil der Americaner vorgefalle, unweit Germanto die Englische Armee.” The view originally appeared in a small work by Will, which contained five maps and five views. The only complete copy cited by OCLC is at the Library of Congress. [With:] Johann Martin WILL Grundiss von Philadelphia, der Haupt Stadt in Pensylvanien und umliegen Gegend . [Augsburg: c. 1778].
