Beschreibung:

White Gold, Platinum, Cabochon Ruby and Diamond Bouquet Clip-Brooch, Attributed to Flato The large bouquet composed of wire spray tipped by 15 oval cabochon rubies approximately 98.00 cts., accented by 11 round diamonds, the stems wrapped by a ribbon set with 36 round and single-cut diamonds, total diamonds approximately 2.00 cts., unsigned, approximately 36.8 dwt. With signed box. Paul Flato (1900 - 1999), began his career as an apprentice to a Swiss jeweler and watch dealer in New York and soon after went into business on his own. Flato had a love for adventure and traveling, which inspired new jewelry ideas derived from his experiences, surroundings and souvenirs. He began to custom design pieces for clients that were one-of-a-kind, inspired by hand imagery, nature and astrology. He had a loyalty to diamonds, but later began to experiment with assorted colored stones in different color combinations. Flato would move with the fashions, creating pieces that were bold, three-dimensional and glamorous. He became the designer to the stars once he expanded to Hollywood and designed for movies and celebrities, creating surrealist pieces that were finely constructed. This brooch is an excellent example of his use of three-dimensional design, innovation and color, which was consistently seen in his pieces throughout the changing times. See Elizabeth Irvine Bray, Paul Flato, Jeweler of the Stars, p. 96 Provenance: Alice Appleton Hay Adele Hay Fath Creekmore W. Fath Creekmore and Adele Fath Charitable Foundation
