wherein is fully handled all that relates to fine gardens, Commonly Called Pleasure-Gardens, Consisting of Parterres, Groves, Bowling-Greens, &c..., translated by John James, second edition in English, title in red and black, 38 double-page folding engraved plates, 3pp. advertisements at end, 1 plate trimmed within platemark, a few spots, contemporary calf, spine worn, joints split, but holding firm, corners worn, rubbed, [Fussell p.117; Henrey p.33 and 950 (under Le Blond); Hunt 471], 4to, for Bernard Lintot, 1728. *** 'Never before did a book lay down the principles of any style so surely and so intelligibly' (Gothein, A History of Garden Art). This edition has 'very large additions, and a new treatise of Flower and Orange-Trees'. Includes mazes, summer-houses, fountains and cascades.
