Western Asiatic Neo-Assyrian Cylinder Seal with Worship Scene 11th-7th century BC A brown stone cylinder seal engraved with ​an antithetical scene consisting, in the centre, of a winged disc with appendage above a palmette-tree, flanked by two kneeling worshippers behind whom, superimposed, are a crescent (symbol for the moon god), a star (symbol for Ištar, the goddess of love, war and the planet Venus)​,​ and a bird (symbol of the war god Ninurta)​; both the kneeling men are bearded, have shoulder-length hair, and wear fringed robes with multiple belts​; they extend one hand at waist level and point with the other. 14 grams, 39mm (1 3/4"). Fine condition. Provenance Property of a London lady; previously with a North London gentleman; formerly acquired on the London art market in the 1990s.
