Arthur Young (1741-1820) was a British agriculturist and published author with whom Washington established a lively correspondence during his retirement. With the responsibilities of administering his estate at Mount Vernon, his thoughts turned to gaining an understanding of the most successful modes of farming available. Young provided excellent insights and observations, thoughts and help. Correspondence published here also includes letters from Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson Provenance: The Estate of David Spinney.
