VEYTIA, Mariano Fernandez de Echeverria y (died 1779). Manuscript entitled 'Soy de Mariano Iph: Fernandez de Echeveria y Veytia Contiene geroglificos de todos los mapas de las Indias Apuntes de Sr Dn M Lorezo Boturini Bernaduci Madrid en 26 Diaz de abril de 1744 MFEVeytia' with a small drawing, in Spanish, 9 leaves 4to (247 x 207mm.), on paper watermarked with the initials BBG. Comprising: title conjoint to calendar 1 (tear in fold), no.2 (trimmed at head with loss to illustration) to no.5 on four leaves, no.6 conjoint with no.7, no. 7 with inscription 'Fusion de la Corte LBB. Cabro. de Honoto.', no.8 inscribed 'Unicos geroglificos de la Cronologia de los Indias Nva Epña Junio 7 de 743 LBB', conjoint with blank . Veytia's drawings of the Mexican calendars were originally made from those in the collection of Lorenzo Boturini. Boturini had compiled in Mexico a large collection of pre-Hispanic codices and documents, which, following his expulsion from Mexico, were repeatedly moved, some of which damaged and others lost. This was the case with the Veytia drawings who made the eight from the Boban Codex, but in this manuscript both the seventh and eighth calendar have an inscription with Boturini's initials. In the published text of 1826, Veytia's editor's included only seven of the calendars from a different manuscript which did not include the eighth, but later research enabled the inclusion of the eighth in the 1907 edition.
