.58 caliber, 40" round barrel, bright finish, walnut stock. Springfield marked lock dated 1858. No date or proofs visible on barrel. Partial roll of Maynard primers in lock magazine. Transitional Type I/Type II with 1858 pattern rear sight and earlier pattern brass nose cap. Sight missing the 500-yard leaf. Retains sling swivels and a swelled iron ramrod. Includes an original sling, US M-1855 socket bayonet with 7-rivet scabbard, and a wooden tompion. Condition: Good. Metal cleaned to bright, removing markings from barrel, with an old coat of discolored dry oil or grease. Clean out screw sheared off. Bore fair, mechanically functional. Stock good, sanded and with repairs to forend, replacing lost wood along the ramrod channel. Accessories good. A representative piece.
