TWO LACQUERED PAPIER-MACHÉ MIRROR CASES AND TWO LACQUERED PAPIER-MACHÉ PEN CASES ( QALAMDANS ) QAJAR IRAN, 19TH CENTURY Each of rectangular form, the first mirror case with a depiction of Fath 'Ali Shah enthroned surrounded by his courtiers, the interior with an informal depiction of Nasir al-Din Shah, a long inscription dated 1905 inside, the mirror lacking; the second, each side with a gul-o bulbul design in narrow borders, the red interior with an oval panel depicting 'Ali, Hassan and Husayn together with attendants; the larger qalamdan with rounded ends and sliding tray, the exterior painted with a central figural oval panel on a floral ground, the sides with floral cartouches alternating with figural medallions, dosing spoon and calligrapher's scissors inside; the smaller pen case with square ends and sliding tray, the top with a mother and child, the sides with landscapes, red base, the interior with inkwell and pen 9in. x 6 ¼in. (23 x 15.7cm.); 9in. x 5 ¾in. (23 x 14.7 cm.); 8 5/8in. (22 cm.) and 4 3/8in. (11 cm.) long respectively
