Beschreibung:

Two Indian miniature paintings, 19th century: 1. Maharana Bhim Singh in Durbar By the artist Ghasi Udaipur, Mewar, circa 1820 Opaque watercolour and gold on paper 25cm high and 34cm wide An inscription on the reverse of this painting identifies the artist as Ghasi. Ghasi was a leading court artist working during the later years of the rule of Maharana Bhim Singh and during the reign of his successor, Jawan Singh. His style is influenced by that of the artist Chokha, although his compositions show greater regularity. Each portrait has been fully individualised and formed with Ghasi's typically crisp lines. 2. Vishnu and Lakshmi Riding Garuda Bundi, Rajasthan, circa 1800 Opaque watercolour and gold on paper 123cm high and 19.5cm wide Vishnu rides his mount Garuda, accompanied by his consort Lakshmi. The eagle holds Vishnu's characteristic conch and mace. Provenance: Private UK Collection.
