Two good 19th-Century lacquered-brass monocular microscopes, See Colour Illustration The first is signed on the barrel Carl Zeiss, Jena. No. 8564 . The barrel has rack and pinion focusing and graduated micrometer fine adjustment. The triple nose-piece is stamped C.ZEISS and JENA . Below the simple stage are a mechanical condensor with diaphragm, and a plano-concave mirror. The main limb tilts on an axis between two upright supports on the black enamelled Y-shaped foot. The fitted mahogany carrying case is partially plush-lined and has a brass carrying handle and two hooks. Accessories include: four eyepieces; Zeiss DD and AA objectives, and a Reichert No.1 objective; an articulated plano-concave substage mirror attachment; five oxidised-brass discs with apertures of varying sizes; And a 19th-Century lacquered and enamelled-brass travelling monocular microscope, signed on the foot CROUCH. LONDON 9832 . The barrel has rack and pinion focusing and micrometer fine adjustment and a triple nosepiece, and is stamped ONLY TO BE USED WITH TUBE DRAWN OUT . The stage is stamped with two sets of graduations and has a built in substage condensor with diaphragm, and a plano-concave mirror. The main limb tilts on an axis at the top of the main U-shaped foot, with two further folding legs. Accessories include: two eyepieces, Crouch 2/3 and objectives, and a Leitz 2 oil immersion, with brass canisters for the objectives.
