A collection of mostly scarce signed and limited editions by Ben K. Green, including two volumes with original sketches by the illustrator. Horse trader and rustic raconteur Ben King Green (1912-74) was born in Hopkins County, Texas, near Cumby where his family had lived for several generations. At the age of twelve, he left home and sought out corrals, wagon yards, and livery stables, fully embracing the life of a cowboy and later, a breeder and horse doctor. In 1960, Green contributed several of his horse trading stories to the Tally Book, a publication for the Fort Worth International Quarter Horse Jockey Club. Shortly thereafter, he met Alfred A. Knopf and by all accounts, told the New York publisher more than he wanted to know about horses. This led to the publication of a series of popular books that established Green as the foremost cowboy writer of his generation. In 1973, he received the Writers Award for contributions to Western literature from the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City and his most successful work, Wild Cow Tales (1969), remains in print more than forty years after his death.
