Comprising the Baby's Opera, the Baby's Bouquet, and the Baby's own Aesop Author: Crane, Walter Place: London Publisher: Printed by Edmund Evans for George Routledge & Sons Date: 1899 Description: Illustrated by Walter Crane with color plates, and decorative color borders and illustrations on nearly every page. Oblong, 11¼x12¼, original quarter vellum gilt, top edge gilt, other edges uncut. First Collected Edition. No. 158 of 750 copies. "Magnificent limited edition of Walter Crane's three dainty books for the 'Babies', in which full justice for the first time is done for the drawings. Careful printing and color work on heavy deckle-edge drawing paper, with generous margins, give them a setting calculated to bring out all the beauties of the designs" (quoted in an old bookseller's description tipped to f.f.e., presumably from the original advertisement). Bookplate of John Taylor Bottomley. Osborne p.2; V&A 38 (separate eds.) Lot Amendments Condition: Vellum darkened, tear to spine, joints well-worn, corners bumped, endpapers spotted; internally clean; worthy of repair to binding. Item number: 166483
