Ainsi les apparences sont elles parfois trompeuses et le jouet ou la poupée que l'on pense attribuer à un tel finalement, par une différence parfois minime mais notoire, s'avère avoir une autre paternité. L'occasion m'est donnée ici dans cette vente, de le constater par deux fois, concernant deux jouets mécaniques présentés en cette page; le tigre et la charrette tirée par un garçonnet. Tous deux, à s'y méprendre ressemblent à des jouets de la maison ROULLET-DECAMPS, mais en réalité sont conçus par Elie MARTIN. Ce dernier bien moins connu des amateurs d'aujourd'hui fut néanmoins, en son temps, un mécanicien génial, (il fut l'inventeur de la « poupée nageuse ». Son talent, bien supérieur à celui des mécaniciens des maisons concurrentes, comme on peut aisément le constater par la lecture de ses nombreux brevets d'invention, lui permi d'améliorer des modèles qui par ailleurs existaient déjà chez ses confrères. Son tigre sauteur est vraiment féroce par rapport au calme tigre marchant de son confrère et quant à son garçonnet la performance düe au pliage des genoux du coureur est spectaculaire par rapport à la marche même rapide de son homologue.... Chacun à sa manière peut être reconnu pour sa valeur et l'amateur averti appréciera les variantes surtout lorsqu'elles sont rares comme les jouets d'Elie MARTIN (Voir aussi l'article sur ce fabricant dans l'Encyclopédia POLICHINELLE Volume 4) May you knew that... The occasion is given to me here in this sale, to show it twice, concerning two mechanical toys presented on these pages; the tiger and the cart drawn by a small boy. Both, resemble to toys made by ROULLET-DECAMPS, but actually are conceived by Elie MARTIN. Mostly unknown today by collectors, he was nevertheless, in its time, a brilliant mechanic, (he was the inventor of the swimming Doll «ONDINE». Its talent, quite higher than that of the mechanics of the concurrent companies, as one can easily note it by the reading of his many patents, improved of the models which in addition existed already among its competitors. Its jumping tiger is really wild compared to the calm walking tiger of Roullet Decamps company and as for its running boy, the performance due to the folding of the knees is spectacular compared to the even fast walk of its counterpart....
