Three CDV's of Major General John Sickles,

Schätzpreis

Beschreibung:

all different views, two by Anthony after Brady, one by Fredricks, N.Y. A disparate and controversial subject, Sickles first commanded the New York Excelsior Brigade before being promoted to Major General in November 1862. Sickles was in charge of the 3rd Corps at Chancellorsville and unfortunately misread "Stonewall's" flanking maneuver as a retrograde that led to the isolation of O.O. Howard's nearby Corps and contributed materially to the Union disaster that ensued. At Gettysburg, Sickles' 3rd Corps was to have formed line in the area of the Round Tops, instead he advanced the corps into the Peach Orchard creating a salient that was overrun by Longstreet. Sickles was wounded and forced to turn over command to Birney but the 3rd Corps was shattered. Having lost a leg as well as Meade's confidence, Sickles never again held field command. Condition:One Anthony distressed, about G, the other G+ with soiling; Fredricks cdv trimmed slightly at bottom and soiled, still G+.
