American, 1851-1938 Portrait of a Lady Signed TWDewing and numbered 17 (lr) Pastel on card 10 1/2 x 7 1/8 inches Provenance: Greer McInnis Marechal, Dayton, Ohio Thence by descent to the present owner This exquisite small profile portrait in pastel was one of ten works by Thomas Dewing purchased by the gallerist William Macbeth on April, 19, 1929. It is identified by number in a letter written by Macbeth to Dewing on April 25, 1929. [Macbeth Gallery Papers, Second series, Correspondence with Artists, Collectors, Sellers, Institutions, other Galleries, etc., 1911-1933; frames 634 and 625, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution. Gift of Mr. Robert McIntyre, 1959] The present work is included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonne of the work of Thomas Dewing in preparation by Susan A. Hobbs, Ph.D. C Property of Kelsey Marechal
Overall good condition. No tears or losses. Some glue residue on reverse of card.
