Original black cloth, flat back, gilt-lettered on spine; printed dust jacket (some scattered pale spotting, a few chips at ends of spine panel); black quarter morocco slipcase. Provenance : inscribed by the writer A. L. Lloyd (1908-1982) and signed by Thomas. With an ALS by Lloyd laid in: "I hope you like Dylan's stuff because it's the best young poetry there is." THOMAS'S FIRST POEMS, WHICH "SHATTERED FOR THOSE WHO DISCOVERED THEM THE WHOLE REVOLUTIONARY OPTIMISM OF THE 'THIRTIES" (Cyril Connolly, The Modern Movement ) FIRST EDITION OF THOMAS'S FIRST BOOK, first issue, with flat back and collating as in Rolph; about 250 copies were printed. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED on the front free endpaper: "[In Lloyd's hand] To Ethel from Bert, and [signed by Thomas] Dylan Thomas." A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY: A.L. ("Bert") Lloyd was an English folk singer and collector of folk songs, and as such was a key figure in the folk music revival of the 1950s and 1960s.
