Title: Thirty-Seventh National Open Championship, United States Golf Association, Played on the Course of The North Shore Golf Club, Glenview, Illinois, June 8, 9, 10, 1933. Official Souvenir Book and Program Author: Jaques, Herbert, USGA President Place: Glenview, IL Publisher: USGA / North Short Golf Club Date: 1933 Description: 32 pp. Illustrated from photographs and ads throughout; double-page course map. 28x21.5 cm. (11x8½"), original saddle stitched pictorial wrappers. This event was won by the amateur, Johnny Goodman, who was a virtual unknown and complete surprise. Gene Sarazen was the favorite to win, as he was defending his title and had also won the British Open. In 1933, John Goodman became the fifth and last amateur to win the U.S. Open. The others were Francis Ouimet (1913), Jerome D. Travers (1915), Chick Evans, (1916), and of course Bobby Jones Provides images and articles of the principal committee members and players, including Gene Sarazen, Bobby Jones Tommy Armour, Walter Hagen, Johnny Farrell, John L. Scheitzer (club manager), Alex Cunningham (North Shore pro). Hole-by-hole descriptions, pairings and starting times for the first two days of play; Modern Golf Course Architecture by Edward B.
