Title: The Works of the Late Right Honorable Joseph Addison, Esq. - With a Manuscript Document, Signed by Addison Author: Addison, Joseph Place: London Publisher: Jacob Tonson Date: 1721 Description: 4 volumes. xxi, [3], 559; [8], 583; 623; 594, [17] pp. Illustrated with steel engraved frontispiece, text engravings, and 6 engraved plates of "Medals Illustrated by the Ancient Poets". Names of subscribers at the end of Vol. 4. (4to) 28.5x23 cm (11x9"), period calf rebacked with original spine leather laid down, raised bands on spines, maroon spine title labels, spine gilt design and lettering. First Collected Edition. Also included is a Manuscript Document, signed by Addison, concerning a payment of 1369 Pounds. One page, 10.5x19 cm (4¼x7½"). Dated May 8, 1717. With anonymous armorial bookplate, "Spare Nought". Rare 1721 printing. Lot Amendments Condition: Some wear and scuffing to boards, light foxing, some browning and darkening to endpaper edges, a few pieces missing from rear free endpaper; very good.
