Beschreibung:

the scenic wooden box measuring 62cm wide by 38cm deep and 13cm tall approx, the front hinging down on chains to give an additional 13cm depth of display, the 38mm scale semi-round foot and 33mm scale cavalry figures, all with green bases, originally stitched or stapled upright to the baseboard. The scenery made of card and papier mache depicts rocky terrain with a river flowing through it, with two loose papier mache rocks, a flat metal bridge, and a pontoon bridge with two metal boats. The interior of the sides of the box are covered with paper lithography of French rural townscape. The baseboard has space for approx 150 figures, and as there are the right number of pieces to fit the space, it is possible that the original contents are here intact. Artillery: two four horse gun teams with guns, an additional gun and five standing crew Services: Ambulance wagon, Forage wagon and Supply wagon, each with two horses, and five foragers Cavalry: three Cuirassiers and three Chasseurs charging, on leaf springs and three Cuirassiers charging, eleven Cuirassiers, six Dragons and three Spahis at the trot, all including officers Infantry: thirty-seven Infanterie assorted, including camp scene and officers with map, one Chasseur a Pied and twenty-eight Zouaves assorted with buglers Scenery: twenty-five pieces including flowers, shrubs, trees, fence, signpost and telegraph poles (G, some F, a very few damaged) 1895 (160)
