beautifully bound 4to volume in buff colored buckram with all over gilt embossed floral decorations and title on front board Birthday Book Designed by H.R.H. Princess Beatrice 1881. Princess Beatrice was the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria. This volume has the same title on printed title page with chromolithographed floral frontis by J.G. Bach of Leipzig, printed in London by Smith, elder & Co. Inside of ffep with manuscript F. Mackenzie Fraser, 1882, presumably the owner of this volume. The volume has each page printed with a calendar date with 27 unnumbered, lettered index pages at rear in which are recorded day pages on which individuals have signed the volume, presumably on their birthdays. Most signatures belong to European royalty, for example, on index page "G" is noted "Germany, Prince of; Germany, Princess of; Germany, crown Princess of;" and the respective date pages bearing their signatures. The main portion of the book has chromolithographed floral title page for each month. On the day's pages are the signatures, with many adding the year signed and location.
