The Livermore Family Queen Anne Red-painted Cherry Carved High Chest of Drawers, Massachusetts, c. 1760-70, the top section with molded swan's neck cresting centering a flame-carved urn-turned finial on shaped plinth, flanked by finials on square plinths, above the case of central thumbmolded concave fan-carved drawer flanked by small drawers with four graduated drawers below, the lower section of long drawer and central conformingly carved drawer and flanking short drawers, on a concave carved valanced skirt with two acorn-shaped drop pendants, joining the cabriole legs ending in pad feet on platforms, retaining its original brass escutcheons and hardware, original and well-preserved salmon red-washed surface, (minor imperfections), ht. 89, wd. 38 3/4, dp. 21 1/2 in. Provenance: Although no known paper documentation has been passed down through the generations, the high chest has been reported through verbal family history to have been in the same house since shortly after its completion. Reverend Jonathan Livermore became the first minister of the town of Wilton, New Hampshire, in 1763 and resided in the earlier years of his ministry, in the house built by his congregation . This piece has remained in the family for approximately 240 years.
