THE FORTY SAYINGS OF THE PROPHET WITH PERSIAN TRANSLATION BY JAMI' COPIED BY MALIK [DAYLAMI], SAFAVID IRAN, DATED AH 949/1542-43 AD Hadith, Arabic and Persian manuscript on paper, 7ff. plus 2 fly-leaves, each folio with 9ll. of black nasta'liq all contained in panels with gold interlinear rules, each folio with three such panels with 4ll. of diagonal nasta'liq , laid down within gold and polychrome margins on variously coloured gold-speckled paper, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece and 9ll. of text running below, colophon signed Malik and dated 949, areas of staining running throughout the manuscript, minor creasing, one folio replaced, in later Ottoman binding with large central gilt stamped medallion and marbled doublures Folio 9½ x 6¼in. (24.2 x 16cm.); text panel 5¾ x 3 1/8in. (14.5 x 8cm.)
