Title: The Edna Webster Collection of Undiscovered Writings Author: Brautigan, Richard Place: Berkeley & Forest Knolls Publisher: Burton Weiss & James Musser Date: 1999 Description: Introduction by Keith Abbot. (8vo) quarter maroon cloth and marbled boards. No. 6 of 65 signed and numbered copies from a total of 75. First Edition. Signed by Keith Abbot at the colophon. The contents of this collection were given by Brautigan to Edna Webster over a period of time between 1955 and 1956, when he left Eugene, Oregon for San Francisco. Webster was Brautigan's confidant and surrogate mother. Her son Peter was Brautigan's best friend and her daughter Linda was his first girlfriend. Several of the writings in this collection were dedicated to Linda and/or Edna. In November 1955, perhaps fearing his parent's efforts to force him into psychiatric care, and seeking safe keeping for his writing, Brautigan wrote and signed a note granting Webster exclusive ownership of his writings. Webster sold the materials in October 1992 to James Musser and Burton Weiss, both rare book dealers who went on to publish them in book form. Lot Amendments Condition: A light crease runs down the full page opposite the title page; else fine. Item number: 275743
