First Edition. Rare first edition containing a nice 1851 double page map of California and the West, which has the "Gold Region" identified, only two years after the start of the gold rush. Other maps of various States, mostly east of the Mississippi River, but includes Texas and Louisiana. The final map is of the entire United States showing Oregon Territory, a large Nebraska Territory (encompassing present-day Montana, Wyoming and Colorado), and an extremely large Indian Territory. Not in Wheat or Howes. Lot Amendments Condition: Joint split, small chips to leather, rubbing, edge wear; foxing, early previous owner's signature and old ink marks; maps very good or better; about very good overall.
