That Jaguar's XJS will become a 'bona fide' classic is beyond doubt. Launched in 1975, its twenty-one year production life was a testimony to the excellence of its basic design. With all-round, independent, coil sprung suspension, power assisted rack and pinion steering, disc brakes and its excellent ride/handling balance; it was justifiably praised by the contemporary motoring press. In 1983, the new 3.6-litre AJ6 straight-six engine was introduced and also a new cabriolet version, the XJ-SC. In the XJ-SC, the coupé's rather small rear seats were dispensed with making it a luxurious two-seater. The XJ-SC was not a pure convertible, instead having a non-removable centre targa-type structure and fixed cant rails above the doors and the rear quarter windows. The six-cylinder cars can be identified by a gently raised section in the centre of the bonnet. Between 1983 and 1987 the six-cylinder engined cars were only available with a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic (ZF 4HP22) offered from 1987 onwards along with improved fuel injection as used on the XJ40. This red, manual transmission XJ-SC is in excellent original condition and has had but two owners from new, being supplied to Mr. Robin Long of Telford on 1 st August 1986 and was originally registered D555MOB. It was sold to Mr. Robert Whitehouse of Bromsgrove in June 1988, who initially registered it in his company's name before re-registering it in his own name. The car comes with the original handbooks, manufacturer's guarantee book and service record to 1999, since when the car has covered just 4,000 miles. The car is fitted with the original Clarion radio cassette unit and the original toolkit is present in the boot. A test drive showed the car to perform superbly, with a very comfortable ride. There is a history file with previous MoT test certificates, a V5C registration certificate and the current MoT test certificate is valid until April 2016, with no advisories.
