Swedish Neoclassical Gilt-Bronze Mounted Porphyry Urn First half of the 19th century Of amphora form, with a wide rim fl... First half of the 19th century Of amphora form, with a wide rim flanked by scrolling handles with mask termination and mounted with a continuous grape cluster and vine leaf garland, ending in a socle and square base. Height 25 inches (63 cm), diameter 20 inches (51 cm). After its initial discovery during Antiquity, the active remining of porphyry occurred in Sweden, circa 1780. During the late 18th/early 19th century the workshops produced vases, urns and other monumental vessels often mounted with gilt-bronze made in either Sweden or France. Corner broken and reglued Gilt-bronze in need of cleaning One side with two large pieces broken out (rim to bottom of gilt bronze mounts) and restored . There are cracks that run from these breaks into the body of the urn. Verso with restored crack and rim chip Small surface cracks in socle and body
