Gabriel Aubaret (1825-1894) war 1863 vom Fregattenkapitän zum französischen Gesandten aufgestiegen. Nach der französischen Besetzung von Indochina führte er im Auftrag von Kaiser Napoleon III. die Verhandlungen mit dem Kaiserhof in Hué über einen Friedensvertrag mit dem Königreich Annam, ebenso war er mit den Verhandlungen mit dem König von Siam betraut. – Das Briefjournal dokumentiert die Vorgänge in Abschriften der aus- und eingehenden Schreiben einschließlich der Vertragsentwürfe. Enthalten sind Abschriften von Briefen Aubarets aus Hué und Saigon an die "Direction politique" und die "Direction commerciale" sowie Briefe aus Bangkok, unter anderem an die "Direction des consulats" mit dem Dank für die Ernennung zum Ersten Konsul, Briefe von Kaiser Napoleon III. an den König von Siam sowie Schreiben des Königs von Annam und des Königs von Siam. – Leicht gebräunt.
