Beschreibung:

Flown Apollo 15 medallion manufactured by the Robbins Company, 1½ inches in diameter, made from sterling silver. The crew mission emblem is on the obverse with the mission dates engraved on the reverse. Near the emblem is a small simulated diamond. Serial number "007" is engraved on the medallion rim. One of only 127 medallions carried on the mission. Only 127 silver medallions were carried on Apollo 15. There were weight limitations, since Apollo 15 was the first “J” mission and carried the Lunar Rover and numerous new scientific instruments. These 127 flown medallions contained a spelling error of the landing site name ("Appennines" instead of "Apennines"). The remaining 177 of the 304 medallions originally struck were returned to the Robbins Company to correct the error and were not flown. The 127 medallions that were flown with the error contain the initials of the Apollo 15 mission emblem designer, Italian Emilio Pucci His initials are just above the 'R' in Worden's name. The present medallion is scarcer still, being one of three specially modified units carried by Scott, with a small simulated diamond mounted on the obverse in the mission emblem. Two of the three were presented to Scott’s grandmothers. With DAVE SCOTT'S signed provenance note.
