Hand-coloured engraved map of Asia, (390 x 510mm). The borders decorated with 10 costumed figures, 8 bird's-eye views of towns. Window mount. Tibbetts 76. -- The Kingdome of China, newly augmented . [London:] Thomas Bassett & Richard Chiswell, 1626. Hand-coloured engraved map of China, including Japan and part of America, (389 x 509mm). The borders decorated with 8 costumed figures, 2 bird's-eye views of towns, and 2 vignettes showing native customs, scale bar, seas decorated with sea monster and galleons. Window mount. Speed's attractive maps of Asia and China, this the first edition of the first English printed map of Asia. A classic carte-a-figures , and one of the most attractive of all the maps of Asia from this period based on Blaeu's 1623 map. The upper border includes views of Damascus, Goa, Macao, Candy, Orumus, Bantam and Aden, and the costume figures include an Arabian, an Armenian, a Javan, a Moluccan and a Moscovite. The map includes the Great Wall of China and uses a standing elephant at the source of the Ganges. The maps were included in Speed's Prospect of the most famous parts of the world . (2)
