Lot of 5. 2 sixth plate tintypes, the first taken just before a child's death and accompanied by inked note that reads, "My little sister Earline Augusta, taken just before her death." Reverse side of note initialed N.L.B. and dated June 5, 1922. Housed in full pressed paper case in very fine condition. Accompanying tintype shows same young child, taken immediately after death. Housed under mat, preserver, and glass, but uncased. In each photograph, the head of the woman holding the child has been scratched/blacked out. Each image a bit dark, with some slight discoloration to each plate. Purchased by consignor in Central New York. Sixth plate postmortem ambrotype of a woman. The photograph reveals her body was laid on a mattress, which was then put on a board resting between two chairs. Wear to plate, including tarnish along perimeter and some discoloration, spotting. Housed in full Union "Geometric/Scroll" case (Krainik-226) with some soiling on surface, some wear. Purchased by consignor in the Finger Lakes of New York State. Sixth plate ruby ambrotype of an aged woman, her head visible in a casket. It appears that the emulsion was still wet/damp when the original mat was placed on it. Contrast not very strong, with some surface wear/loss to plate. Housed in full pressed paper case separated at hinge. Purchased in Central New York. Postmortem CDV of a toddler in a crib, verso credit to F.M. Spencer, Mansfield, PA. Image has lightened, with some light soiling/spotting.
