The highlight of the lot is a sixth plate daguerreotype of an attractive young girl seated in a studio beside a small stack of books, housed under early mat in leather case embossed in gold in the center of the front cover, "Plumbe's Daguerreotypes / 50 Cents / 15 Court St. Boston," with spread-winged eagle above text, perched atop a round, gold medal that reads, "Gold Medal Awarded to Plumbe." [Berg 4-85G]. Case fully separated at hinge, with loss along spine/surface wear and scuffing to case. Image with tarnish, spotting. Accompanied by sixth plate daguerreotype in half case showing young woman in plaid dress, holding what appears to be a thimble in her hand, seated beside a small table with book resting on top. Image a little cloudy, spotting on mat, wear to half case; sixth plate daguerreotype of a serious looking man, possibly a draftsman based on the tools he appears to have on hand, housed in full leather case separated at hinge. Surface wear to case. Image a little dark, but details still visible; and sixth plate ruby ambrotype of three middle-aged women, housed in sixth plate pressed paper case with Bird and Grapes, [variation of Berg 5-34]. Some spotting on ambrotype. Case in very good condition, with some loss to gilt border on front and back covers.
