The blade is heavily used and stained and is protected with a clear (removable) laminate, the grip is perishing. Cowdrey toured Australia six times between 1954/5 and 1974/5. The century scored with this bat, a chanceless 104 in 197 minutes, was one of four against Australia. Indeed, his first century against Australia was 102 out of an innings of 191 at Melbourne in 1954/5. The 1966 Melbourne Second Test was drawn as was the series, Australia retaining the Ashes. Cowdrey was awarded the CBE before being knighted in 1992. He was President of the MCC in 1986/7 and chairman of the International Cricket Council 1989-93.
