Aprox. 780 plain engraved plates by Heath and Griffith (some light offsetting, otherwise generally clean). Contemporary diced russia, spines gilt (worn, spines chipped, tail of spine to vol. one defective). FIRST EDITION. The work was begun by George Shaw, keeper of the natural history section of the British Museum from 1807, and completed by Stephens after Shaw's death following the publication of volume VIII in 1812.
