Woodcut initials. (8vo) 14.5x9.5 cm. (5¾x3¾"), modern vellum. Scarce little edition of Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy, a philosophical treatise on fortune, death, and other issues written while he was imprisoned awaiting execution on the orders of King Theodoric the Great. The Consolation became one of the most popular and influential works of the Middle Ages. OCLC/WorldCat list only 6 copies of this edition. Lot Amendments Condition: Title-page with some soiling and repairs to wormholes, old ink notation; marginal repairs to following leaf; very good. Item number: 213660
