Unknown species Cretaceous Central Asia At 135-125 million years old, these seven feathers are some of the oldest found, exceeded in age only by 150-million-year-old Archaeopteryx bird feathers from Solnhofen. Exhibiting varying characteristics of flight and flightless origins, these early feathers were found in a fossilized volcanic lakebed where many types of feathered dinosaurs have been recovered. While it is impossible to distinguish between bird and dinosaur feathers, the only flightless animals found in this locality are theropod dinosaurs, raising the possibility that these are actually dinosaur feathers. Preserved in original matrix, these intriguing specimens are housed in a 12 x 8 inch Riker mount. Feathers measure 6mm to 13mm
