SEILLIÈRE, Baron Achille (1782-1850) -- La Bibliothèque de Mello. Catalogue of an Important Portion of the Very Choice Library of the late Baron Seillière . London: Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge, 28 February 1887. 8 o (243 x 153 mm). Contemporary green half morocco, t.e.g., by F. Bakala, Vienna (minor rubbing). Provenance : E.P. Goldschmidt (binding, prices, 3-page manuscript list of notable provenances). PRICED throughout by E.P. Goldschmidt. The London sale catalogue of outstanding items from the library at the Château de Mello, offering French and Italian Romances, books bound for Grolier, De Thou and Hoym, and other historic bindings. Mello, whose foundations go back to the ninth century, was bought in 1819 by François-Alexandre-Seillière, later Baron de Mello, French industrialist, art and book collector. His son, Achille (1813-1887) greatly augmented the collections which in turn were inherited by his sons Nicolas (d. 1887) and François-Florentin-Achille (d. 1890). Blogie III, col. 45.
