Sao Paulo Railway. AN ARCHIVE RELATING TO ENGINEERING WORKS ON THE SAO PAULO RAILWAY FOR THE PERIOD 1860-1943, COMPRISING APPROXIMATELY 300 PHOTOGRAPHS (MOST IDENTIFIED), MANUSCRIPT PLANS AND DRAWINGS FOR BUILDING AND ENGINEERING WORKS, AND OTHER NOTES, PRINTED DOCUMENTS, ETC.; AND OTHER MATERIAL RELATING TO SOUTH AMERICAN RAILWAYS AND ENGINES, AND ONE TO THE MANILA RAILROAD CO. The most notable part of this archive relates to the doubling of the Sao Paulo railway line during the period 1895-1899, comprising a collection of approximately 90 plans numbered 1-81 (with some extras) of stations (including Sao Paulo and Santos) and other engineering works, dated 1896, housed in a wooden box (200 x 360 x 260mm.) lettered in gilt "Sao Paulo Railway Doubling of Line 1896"; a manuscript estimate of costs dated 1896; an album with 53 photos (plus 7 loosely inserted), most captioned and dated 1898-9, presented by Bronislaw Rymkiewicz, managing partner of the contacting firm, to D.M. Fox (binding worn); a few earlier printed items including "San Paulo Railway Company... prospectus" (1859), "San Paulo Railway Articles of contract and official documents" (1860, with a manuscript supplement, 1862), D.M. Fox's "Description of the Line and Works of the Sao Paulo Railway", 1870 (worn); and later material, including 3 albums containing c.240 photographs relating to the Sao Paulo line (1930s and 1940s)
