SANDYMOUNT STRAND, 1980 Sunny Apinchapong-Yang (b.1950)

Sunny Apinchapong-Yang was born in Bangkok in 1950, where his Chinese parents settled after World War II. He arrived in the United States in 1970, where he attended the Art Centre College of Design, a... and California State University of Los Angeles, achieving B.A. and M.A. degrees in Fine Art. In 1977 he studied painting on a scholarship to the Sergei Bongart School of Art in Los Angeles. He later worked as Mr. Bongart's assistant at the school, and also at his annual summer workshops in Idaho. Sunny lived and worked in Dublin in the late 1980's. During that time he staged successful sell-out exhibitions at the Solomon Gallery, the Polo-One, and at the National Portrait Exhibition. On his return to the United States he exhibited at many of California's leading galleries. Sunny is a Signature member of California Art Club and also a member of Oil Painters of America. The Oriel Gallery brought Sunny back to Dublin with a solo exhibition in September of 2005, entitled ‘Ireland Revisited’ more
