They were designed in four different sizes and values, and Dali was known to use them as currency amongst friends. The coins featured the profiles of the artist and his wife Gala with laurel leaves, fleur-de-lys and eggs. A common theme in Dali's work, eggs were used to represent rebirth. The following year Dali collaborated with Piaget to create jewellery and watches featuring the Dali d'Ors as shown in this present lot.
