A very fine, rare and early silver and gilt pre-hairspring hour striking verge clock watch Signed Salomon Chesnon, Blois, circa 1620 Gilt brass gut fusée verge movement, plain top plate, steel two-armed balance, pierced and engraved floral decorated balance cock, blued steel count wheel, turned baluster pillars, the hours stroke on a bell, gilt dial finely engraved with cherubs and floral and foliage decoration, engraved Roman numerals on raised silver chapter ring, centre decorated with an engraved scene depicting Venus and a cherub, single steel hand, oval silver case with gilt rims, hinges, pendant and bow, finely pierced and engraved scroll and foliage decorated band, both covers finely engraved with battle scenes possibly after Etienne Delaune the hinged front cover with engraved wreath to the inside, movement signed 61 mm. long & 42 mm. wide
