Sacha de Montbel
Big Game Hunting (First Engish Edition)
Published: Rowland Ward Publications, Houghton, South Africa, First English Edition - 2000
Edition: First English Edition
Hunting has taken us through bush and forest and up mountains; leading us to experience novel coloured sunsets and sunrises, to discover limitless horizons. We have pursued the white sheep and the old goat of the mountain tops, or shot our umpteenth black buffalo in the dry savanna, quite similar to the others but quite different thus becoming yet again the unforgettable one in our eyes! We have travelled on horseback through the high plateaus of the Himalayas or the russet valleys of the Klondike, or waited for long hours, at different latitudes and at dawn and dusk in anticipation of the stealthy leopard or heavy jaguar with golden spots. One week and undoubtedly another, and maybe even a third week elapsed, with this feeling, which became more intense each day, of fleeting time passing too quickly, especially when the first hopes were disappointed and day after day we saw our chances of meeting the trophy which we coveted, disappearing. But in the end, attaining it was perhaps not the most important aspect... Sacha de Montbel (Xavier for the registry office) was born in Toulouse in 1926. He did his university studies in Paris at the Sorbonne: in the faculties of Political Science and Law. He joined the armoured cavalry of the combatant service in Saumur and went to the occupation area in Berlin with the 11th Chasseurs. Sacha went to Africa at the age of 23, where he spent almost twenty years, firstly in North Africa as a journalist, then to Equatorial Africa as a cigarette manufacturer. It is there that he contracted the game hunting virus which led to him to discover practically all the big hunting territories of the African continent. The years went by, many of which were spent travelling to destinations such as Asia, Oceania, North and South America, Central and Eastern Europe. Sacha has undertaken more than forty remote expeditions till the present day. Illustrated endpapers. Half Title, Title, Contents, Preface. 256 pages text with supporting photographic illustrations. Very Good. Jacket Condition: Very Good Binding Condition: Very Good Overall Condition: Very Good Size: 30.5 x 24.5 cm
