ROOSEVELT, Eleanor. Two portrait photographs of the First Lady, by Bachrach, [Washington, D.C.], 1941. BOTH INSCRIBED AND SIGNED. [Washington, D.C.], 1941. 11 x 9 in. and 11½ by 8½ in., one matted . IN TWO FINE SILVER FRAMES BY TIFFANY & CO. AND CARTIER.. The first a view of the first Lady, in an elegant full-length gown, seated at the White House, with a portrait of FDR on the desk at her side. Inscribed in ink "To Johnny and Anne with my love Mother." The second, less formal portrait, half length, shows a smiling Eleanor with wide lace collar and pearl necklace. Inscribed and signed on the mat "Johnny Darling, with much love & the best of luck always Mother." Two photographs in silver frames, given by Eleanor to John when he entered active duty with the U.S. Navy in 1941. Rising from Ensign to Lieutenant Commander, John served throughout the war on the aircraft carriers Wasp and Hornet and won the Bronze Star. (2)
