Romantischer Landschaftsmaler

Strohgedecktes Bauernhaus am Feldweg beim Dorfteich.
Öl auf Leinwand. Unsign. Verso zweifach Stempel des Künstlerbedarfs Alphonse Giroux, Paris. Verso auf der Rahmenrückseite undeutlich bez.

Der auf den Stempeln der Leinwand genannte Alphonse Giroux (1776 - 1848) war ein vielseitiger Unternehmer, der in Paris unter anderem als Maler, Kunstrestaurator und Ebenist tätig war und dessen Geschäft für Kunsttischlerei während der Epoche der Bourbonenkönige Ludwig XVIII. und Karl X. florierte. In seiner restauratorischen Tätigkeit war er unter anderem an der Wiederherstellung der Kathedrale Notre-Dame beteiligt. Einer seiner Söhne, André Giroux (1801 - 1879), schlug eine Laufbahn als Landschaftsmaler ein und wurde 1825 mit dem Prix de Rome ausgezeichnet.

Zustandsbericht:
Guter Gesamteindruck. Frühschwundrisse, Bildränder rahmungsbedingt ber. sowie mit leichter Oberflächenverschmutzung, unter dem Rahmen nicht sichtbar, mehrere punktuelle fachmännische Retuschen.

Oil on canvas. Unsigned. Verso stamp of the artist's supplies store Alphonse Giroux, Paris, twice. Verso on the back of the frame indistinctly inscribed.

Alphonse Giroux (1776 - 1848), named on the stamps of the canvas, was a versatile entrepreneur who worked in Paris as a painter, art restorer and ebonist, among other things, and whose cabinetmaking business flourished during the era of the Bourbon kings Louis XVIII and Charles X. His restoration work included the renovation of the Notre-Dame Cathedral. One of his sons, André Giroux (1801 - 1879), embarked on a career as a landscape painter and was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1825.

Condition report:
Good overall impression. White shrinking cracks, margins rubbed from framing as well as with slight surface soiling, not visible below the frame, several skilfully retouched spots.
