Roman School, 17th CenturySt. Jerome in the Wilderness Pen and brown ink266 by 200 mm; 10 1/2 by 7 7/8 inCondition reportLaid down to a decorative backing which has subsequently been hinged to a modern mount. The edges of the sheet are somewhat uneven and there are a number of areas where the ink has eaten away at the sheet, resulting in some small losses and old repairs. These are most evident in the areas of the drawing where the ink is at its most dense, such as along the tree and rocky outcrop, as well as the fold of St. Jerome's tunic. There is also a vertical crease along the right margin, probably created when the sheet was laid down. There is also some light brown staining to the lower right corner. The image itself remains legible, with the penwork highly energetic throughout. Sold unframed.
