First edition, octavo, half-title, advertisement leaf, and bookseller's catalog all present, [A]4, B-Z4, Aa-Hh4; photograph of the only known portrait of Rogers inserted opposite title as frontispiece; bound in modern half morocco, green, with patterned paper boards, front board detached, teg, 8 x 5 in. Field 1315; Graff 3555; Howes R-419; Sabin 72725; Streeter sale II:1029; Vail Frontier 563. Rogers' Rangers fought famously on behalf of the British during the French and Indian War. Rogers was a natural leader and innovator whose soldiers exceled at unconventional forms of warfare under inhospitable conditions. His records of these exploits provide a valuable first-person narrative of that war.
