Stephenson Esq., Haverstock, Hampstead Hill." "I assure you, a scamper over the country with you and my father would afford me sincere pleasure, but I have had some little trouble with the Tunnel (entre nous) and I cannot feel justified in leaving just now -- I was all along fearful this would be the case and believe me scarcely anything else would have prevented me accompanying you ...." With 2 other letters from Stephenson to Brunel, both mentioning his father, George Stephenson (1781-1848), one undated referring to the fact that "my father is going to Bristol to see your coke ovens," the other dated St. John's Wood, 17 March 1835 including the transcript of a letter from George Stephenson to Robert, in which he asks his son to "inform Brunel of my movements, and if I can be of any service, write immediately to Alton Grange."
