Original wrappers slightly soiled, text clean, last volume spine rubbed, otherwise a very good set. Riemann (18531891) was a French traveler and archaeologist. He had focused on the Ionian islands where he travelled, during the 1870s, extensively and did the first systematic archaeological excavations. This is the first travel book specifically for Kefalonia and Kithira (Cerigo).Village by village, all the four islands are described in details, their people, costumes, monuments, medieval towns (still standing) etc. In the meanwhile he conducted the first excavations and identifications of ancient places. A complete set of all Riemann three travel accounts for the Ionian islands. VERY RARE.
